The FDA Updated the Food Pyramid — But the Real Problem Remains

The updates are an improvement...

And to be clear —
it is a meaningful improvement.

It emphasizes more whole foods,
less added sugar,
and better overall balance.

That matters.

But there’s a bigger issue the guidelines still don’t address.

Because the real problem in this country isn’t a lack of advice about what people should eat.

We already have no shortage of dietitians, nutritionists, and experts telling Americans what to avoid and what to choose.

The real problem is this:

What the American food system allows to be sold as food.

The U.S. food supply contains thousands of approved additives, preservatives, emulsifiers, dyes, and flavoring agents.

Most of them don’t exist in nature.
They were engineered in labs.
They were never part of the human diet historically.

Yet they’re allowed — often through regulatory loopholes.

Here’s the part most people miss:

The FDA regulates ingredients.
It does not regulate metabolic outcomes.

And the same system that approves those ingredients
also regulates the medications used to treat the metabolic damage that follows.

So chronic illness gets framed as a personal responsibility problem —
when in reality, it’s a systems problem.

A system that regulates the inputs,
then treats the outputs.

So yes —
they’re telling you to eat better.
And they’re showing you a nicer chart.

But real health doesn’t start with a graphic.

It starts with real food.
Less processing.
Fewer ingredients.
And access to fitness and nutrition knowledge that actually respects human biology.
